Sometimes an adventure starts with a wardrobe, a board game, or a magical castle – Wolfbaene starts with two boys and two dragons 🐉

William Knight doesn’t belong in Trinity Boys College. He is bullied constantly and is always wondering why he doesn’t fit in. When he is suddenly whisked away from the human world to the medieval village of Chermside by a talking dragon, he is given a deadly task only a true knight can achieve. The task? Rescue the queen from a dungeon, win his knighthood, kill the king who murdered his father and return the town to its former glory before the dark magic of the king ruins the beautiful town forever. To make matters worse, he is expected to undertake this deadly quest with a conceited boy named Thomas Knight; his brother. Could things get any worse?

🦋IT’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK🦋
I conducted my first public fundraiser recently, to raise money and awareness for mental health, cancer and children’s charities. I was saddened and shocked to be told that kids as young as FOUR suffer with anxiety and almost every teenager will go through some level of depression – as parents, teachers, guardians, we can only support and provide them with tools to make life easier.

I find writing children’s fantasy/magical adventures helps my anxiety and I share my crazy imagination in the hope of making kids happy.

What’s Your Favourite Part?

I’m always up for a challenge, and when Fate plays her hand, I graciously accept. 

Taking on the challenge of writing my first book was probably the craziest thing I’ve done, and to delve into the world of magic and children’s literature, has been a life-changing journey. I grew up in a time of Pete’s Dragon and Peter Pan, with a wild imagination and a passion for books. I was fortunate to have a mother who encouraged me to read and learn. But, reading your favourite Golden Books classic and writing a children’s noteworthy adventure are as different as Paddington Bear and Cinderella. 

However, as a woman heading into her 40’s, I took up my pen and paper, opened my dusty imagination and met some wonderful characters. 

I met Miles Tissle, the elf who’d be unwillingly challenged to save his village, with the help of a stubborn and courageous faery, Audrey Appleby. I uncovered adventure after adventure, writing it all down. Until I finally stumbled across William and Thomas, who showed me a world of medieval fantasy, dragons, werewolves and castles; and here my heart exploded. 

Wolfbaene became my first published book.  Two boys, two dragons, a werewolf and a magic book – promising an epic adventure. It brought me out of my comfort zone and gave me new experiences as I visited primary schools and attended festivals, reading and sharing my children’s book with others. 

Now, I’ve been invited to read part of Wolfbaene at an upcoming medieval festival in November, and I need your help.

Books Light Up Our World ~ Book Week 2015

Book Week for 2015 is over and it’s been fantastic to see kids (of all ages) dressing up as their favourite book character (I think I even spotted some much-loved family pets being dressed up!). The theme this year was “Books Light Up Our World” and what a wonderful theme it was; so absolutely true. For as far back as I can remember, I was a ‘reader’ – and with a younger brother and two younger sisters, we were always cosplaying our favourite books. I’ve compiled a small list of my all-time favourite kid’s books; stories that sparked my imagination and still, today, takes me down ‘Memory Lane’.

Wind in the Willows – Kenneth Grahame
A beautiful publication based in Pastoral England and rich with captivating characters. Enter the world of the Great River and meet the marvellous animals; the poetic Rat, his friend Mole, and the boastful Toad, as they voyage down the river and into the Wild Wood.

Paddington Bear – Michael Bond

The Browns find a lost bear at Paddington Station and the most amazing adventure begins. They quickly discover that this little lost bear is no ordinary bear; he’s come all the way from Darkest Peru. He speaks very fine English and loves marmalade jam! They take him home, with his suitcase and hat, and name him Paddington Bear.

Peter Pan – James Matthew Barrie

Peter Pan and his fairy friend Tinkerbell take Wendy and her siblings on an adventure they’ll never forget. A splendid tale that never grows old and continues to delight children of all ages. The adventures of Neverland, complete with the Lost Boys, Hook, Tinkerbell, Peter Pan and Wendy is sure to find a treasured place in any home or library.

Where the Wild Things Are – Maurice Sendak

When Max puts on his wolf suit and makes mischief, his mother calls him, ‘Wild thing’ and sends him to bed without any dinner. Here, he is crowned the king and tames the Wild Things, but the Wild Things have lessons they’ll teach him too. The Tale of Peter Rabbit – Beatrix Potter

This is the tale of a very mischievous rabbit and the trouble he encounters in Mr. McGregor’s vegetable garden. Beatrix Potter is regarded as one of the world’s best-loved children’s authors and from her first book, The Tale of Pater Rabbit, she went on to create a series of adventures based around other animals characters, including, Mrs. Tiggy-winkle, Benjamin Bunny and Jemima Puddle-duck. Her humorous and delightful illustrations would spark even the most dormant imagination!

Harry Potter Series – J.K Rowling
Harry Potter thinks he’s an ordinary boy. He lives with his Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and cousin Dudley; who are very mean to him and make him sleep in a cupboard under the stairs.
Then harry starts to receive mysterious letters, and on his eleventh birthday, his life changes in the most magical way. He is whisked away by a beetle-eyed, hairy giant of a man and promptly enrolled into Hogwarts School of Witchcraft. Harry is definitely not an ordinary boy!

The Chronicles of Narnia – C.S Lewis
An epic tale of battles between good and evil, fantastic beasts, heroic deeds and betrayals; Narnia has been enchanting readers for over sixty years. Peter, Susan, Lucy and Edmond stumble through the back of a wardrobe hidden away in the spare room and find themselves in the world of Narnia. Together they must battle the White Witch to break her cruel grip on Narnia, but they’ll need help from the mighty Aslan and faith in each other.

Inkheart  Series – Cornelia Fudge

This epic series of adventure, magic and self-discovery takes the reader ‘into’ the book. Maggie lives a quiet life alone with her father, a book-binder, until the mysterious arrival of a stranger, claiming to be linked to her mother’s disappearance and her father’s secretive past. Suddenly, Maggie and her father are swept up in a breathless adventure to find her mother. This book is a book within a book type of series; a real page turner!

Winnie the Pooh – A.A. Milne

Oh, this is such a warm, funny and enchanting story! I don’t know anyone who hasn’t read this captivating series or purchased it for a loved one. Winnie the Pooh, with his gorgeous friends, Christopher Robin, Eeyore, Tigger, Piglet, Owl and Rabbit, will continue to enchant generations to come.

Puff the Magic Dragon – Peter Yarrow & Lenny Lipton

I’ve saved the best for last… Welcome to Honalee, an enchanted land of imagination and friendship. In this gorgeous place, Jackie Paper and his friend, Puff, the magical dragon, share their adventures. This is my absolute favourite children’s tale of companionship and saying goodbye. I remember singing along to the Peter, Paul and Mary song as a young girl; seated on the classroom mat whilst the teacher played the tune on her piano – with my imagination running wild!

And because I believe there aren’t enough books written about magical dragons, I’ve written an enchanting adventure called Wolfbaene (with the sequel on its way!)
